Acoustic Territories: Incoming

"Sound, in its distributive and dislocating permeability appears as if from everywhere; it flows as an environmental flux, leaving objects and bodies behind to collect others in its movement"

-Brandon Labelle, Acoustic Territories: Sound Culture and Everyday Life

Noise, sound, music are terms that indicate our aesthetic sensibilities, delineating conceptual sites of varying acceptability. These aesthetic categories guide city by-law, determine zoning decisions, suggests quality of living, and sway housing market value that subconscious train listeners' appreciation everywhere. At Acoustic Territories: Incoming, we have created a microcosm of acoustic regions to expose, explore, and excite our aural imaginations.

Commissioned by Boca Del Lupo Theatre Company, I curated an evening of new works composed and performed by 6 emerging composer-performers at the Fishbowl on Granville Island on Oct 13th, 2017. This roving concert guides the audience through the pieces and the listening by slight lighting change. This concert included pieces and performance by Nancy Tam, Robyn Jacob, Ben Brown, Alanna Ho, Elliot Vaughan, and Matt Horrigon.
