Desperately Standing Upright

Desperately Standing Upright was inspired by the textual instructions from the butoh master Tasumi Hijikata, and was written for three parts: a duo of voices, and a mover (dancer). The sounds of breath, bugs, and the beatings of harmonics are key sonic elements in this piece. The instructions that inspired the piece is written as the movement score for the mover (dancer).

Desperately Standing Upright was a winning composition at Aarhus Unge Tonekunstnere in 2013. It was primered by the Norwegian experimental vocal duo BLY and Danish dancer-choreographer Lisbeth Sonne on Dec 8th, 2013 in Aarhus, and Dec 10th 2013 in Copenhagen.
